Principles of Design:
Movement

Emphasis

Emphasis

Movement is the path crated by the elements of art to draw the viewer's eye around the piece through its components and to the focal point.  This can create the suggestion of motion.

A vine filled with red leaves clings to a brick wall. A window gives a glimpse into a warm kitchen. On the windowsill is a cooling pie. Four fairies have alighted on the vine filled with curiosity. They are looking, peeking, reaching for, and tasting the pie.
"Finders Keepers" has a lot of movement.  The viewer's eye is drawn along the lines of the vines and  leaves, and through the colours of the bricks.  The viewer's eye is drawn around the shapes of the window frame and asymmetrical circle of fairies.  Eventually the movement points to the pie and the fairy eating it.  See the image below for some examples of the paths the eye might take through the image.

the same image as directly above but with blue arrows showing the direction of movement

In the image to the left some of the possible paths of movements the eye might follow are shown with blue arrows.
