Principles of Design:
Contrast

Balance

Contrast is the placement of opposite or considerably different values of the same element of art side by side or in close proximity.  Contrast can be used to create a focal point or create the perception of three dimensional space.

the word tiger is made up of four different kinds of Celtic knotwork and a orange and white tiger on a rainbow coloured background
"Celtic Knot Tiger" uses contrast to make the tiger as the letter "G" the focal point of the piece.  The letter "G" has a lot less lines and a much smoother texture then the other letters.  It is in colour where the other letters are in black and white.  The letter "G" is mostly orange which is the opposite colour of the blue background behind it.
